fistful-of-fandom:

ILY = I love you

ILYSM = I love you so much

BYSMADAAFAIBSYGSRASHSMATTOYKMHYMMAWPIOYESAYOMNIDKIIWDTAIDEKIICAIIQNTW =  But you saved me. As difficult and as frustrating as it’s been sometimes, your goddamned strict rationalism and science have saved me a thousand times over. You’ve kept me honest. You’ve made me a whole person. I owe you everything, Scully, and you owe me nothing. I don’t know if I wanna do this alone… I don’t even know if I can … and if I quit now, they win.

The western rumi translations have completely decontexualized his poems from their islamic/quranic basis. Rumi was a muslim mystic and scholar, his poems aren’t even about love between two people yet that has completely been changed in these translations and he’s turned into some love guru for 21st century folks. It’s so annoying.

Like im out here doing further readings and research to even understand how to approach and read these poems, what the essence of the stories are, who are these characters and who i am (as the reader) and what roles i’m playing in these stories. And these popular western translations are not only way off meaning wise, but they completely strip these poems of their essence, where is the divine and where is the prophet in these translations. The masnavi poem collection is literally known as the quran in persian, thats how deeply rooted these poems are in islam, the context of these poems are purely the quran/hadith. westerners started erasing islam from islamic mystical poetry since the victorian period and now we’ve reached a stage where these poems are presented as some new age bs, completely erasing islam and the spirituality that has been lived and internalized by muslims since more than 1400 years ago, this in itself is spiritual colonialism. And then we’ve the constant demonizing of muslims by the west, so like what will the west ever respect? I’m so disgusted.

this has always bothered me because not only is it all rooted in quranic knowledge, it’s also rooted in rumi’s personal relationship with allah.

he was and still is a prominent figure in sufism and a lot of the focus in sufism is towards getting closer to and understanding allah in ways other people haven’t. like sufis can spend their entire lives following a guide and abandoning all material wealth to become closer to their creator.

so for the west to reduce rumi’s work to being about two humans in love is not only erasing the islamic nature of all his work but also erasing the relationship he built with his creator which is so disrepectful.

powsolution:

I tried to get into the World Cup but it is just as White Washed as everything else.

Every gifted boy of color wants to play for Real Madrid and Manchester ….. So European teams pay for the best from Black & Brown countries and then claim European dominance 👎🏾

Another blaring example of how colonized this planet is.

Oh hey, I was actually watching a video related on this topic yesterday. Not surprisingly there’s lots of European MoC with the talent so they’re playing for their diaspora’s countries instead which at least gives non-Western countries more access to players in spite of limited resources.

But I feel you. As a Latin American, I’m well aware that our benchmark for whether a player has made is whether they play for a European club. We’re stuck in this imperialistic loop.

People saying Belgium does not deserve this: the only game they ever lost with this coach was their first one.

- They are third in the FIFA ranking, and now with Brazil and Germany gone they are first.

- 1986: the last time they were in the semifinals

- They hadn’t won a game against Brazil in more than 50 years.

- They hadn’t won a game against England in more than 80 years.

- They are one of the most fair play teams, going as far as giving up a penalty because they probably felt the first one they got was enough.

- 11 000 000 inhabitants and we still get this amazing team.

They work hard and don’t act like drama queens. They deserve all the praise.

Why pay money to go to an art gallery and see modern art when you could just watch Belgium score against Brazil
